About Us

The Mission

The Alabama Retired State Employees’ Association Foundation’s mission is to promote, coordinate and financially support activities and projects dedicated to the improvement of the physical, mental, social, emotional and economic health, knowledge and quality of life for retirees and older Alabamians.

The Past

The ARSEA Foundation was established in the fall of 1996 to help build an office to house ARSEA and commemorate members. In conjunction with the building project, The Plaza of Memories was created to memorialize and honor those who have meant so much to the Alabama Retired State Employees' Association's (ARSEA) growth and development. Those who wish to honor or memorialize a friend or family member can do so by purchasing a brick in the Plaza of Memories as a permanent part of our landscape.

In 1999, the Foundation sponsored its first Health Fair and Exposition and in 2000, it partnered with the State Employees’ Insurance Board and began hosting influenza vaccination clinics. Since then, these events have been provided yearly when and where available. With statistics recounting as many as 32,000 people dying each year from new and more virulent viruses, this program may have saved many lives.

The Present

Having fulfilled its building goal, the Foundation has refined its mission to provide wellness and educational programs through informational and research efforts. We are accomplishing this through the continuation of annual Expositions, participating in educational efforts of other groups and agencies such as the Alabama Department of Senior Services, Alabama Silver-Haired Legislature, Alabama Securities Commission, Alabama Honor Flight, and the University of Alabama Birmingham Center for Aging.

Since 2000, the Foundation has held a successful annual Silent Auction usually held in conjunction with ARSEA’s Annual Meeting. The Foundation also sells cookbooks and collects used cell phones.

The Future

The Foundation will continue to support medical research in Alabama relating to aging and gerontology and educational information projects designed to improve the quality of life for retirees and older Alabamians. The Foundation also provides some financial support to Senior Centers throughout the State since these facilities contribute to improving the quality of life for retirees and their community and are often underfunded.

Donations in any amount are welcome. The Foundation is a 501c(3) tax-exempt organization and all donations are tax deductible for income tax purposes under IRS regulations. Call the ARSEA office to discuss your options at 800-844-7732 or click here for donation information form.
